  • LIVE MORE = WASTE LESS and save $

DITCH THE PACKAGE. Did you know, only 9% of plastic is actually recycled? Thats what makes buying in Bulk so appealing (Bulk foods are going mainstream). Studies have found buying from "the bulk" bins saved shoppers an average of 89% over packaged varieties. Another advantage is you can use it to try different items and not end up with a pantry full of unused food, cleaners, and other ingredients that you may never use (which end up taking valuable real estate (space) in your space (shelves, cabinets, closets, storage bins and on and on). On your trek to wasting less, you'll find that exploring and finding local shops in your area can be fun and using (or reusing) containers can stimulate your creativity. For inspiration and ideas follow Zero Waste Influencers such as Bea Johnson and Kathryn Kellogg for ideas and support. .

  • Drains to the Ocean

We are finding everything from furniture and luggage to tennis balls and backpacks in our harbor, not to mention logs, branches and tires that float just below the surface and become navigational hazards. These items bend propellers, break shafts and for jet engine vessels, items get sucked into the engine itself. Every rainy season we are inundated with objects (anything that floats) will travel and make its way down through waterways, canals, rivers and eventually end up into the ocean. Most city's have maintenance and work crews dedicated to this task. There are also local beach clean up events in your area where you can join in and participate and maybe even make some new friends. We'd like to shout and thank People of the Earth Krew for their monthly beach cleanup (every 3rd Saturday). They are a non-profit "Advocating for Mental Health and Environmental Stewardship".
